Julian Geiger
Former Chairman & CEO, Aeropostale, inc.
Julian Geiger has enjoyed an extensive career in the retailing industry, serving as Chairman & CEO of Aeropostale Inc. from 1998 to 2010. Under his leadership there, annual revenues grew from less than $100 million to approximately $2.8 billion. Upon his retirement in 2010, the company had a market capitalization that exceeded $3 billion. At Aeropostale, Julian fostered close relationships in college sports, which led to the company becoming the lead sponsor of the Big East Conference. Prior to his time at Aeropostale, Julian held a range of executive merchandising positions, including President & CEO of Federated Specialty Stores (a division of Federated Department stores), President of the Eagle’s Eye Kids wholesale and retail divisions of Asian American Partners, and President of Merchandising for Macy’s East. Julian received a BA in European history from Columbia College, where he competed as a member of the varsity golf team. After graduating, he coached the Columbia freshmen golf team while earning an MBA in international business at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business Administration. Julian remains closely associated with Columbia and intercollegiate sports through his sponsorship of the Geiger Trophy, for which he takes the Columbia men’s golf team to Scotland every four years for competition and educational pursuits. Additionally, Julian has played an active role in the development of the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center, which is an organization dedicated to the elimination of domestic violence and named after his late wife.
